communication with God
Prayer is personal communication with God that flows from a relationship with Jesus Christ—not a ritual. Believers pray to the Father through the Son, empowered by the Holy Spirit (1 Timothy 2:5). Prayer is marked by intimacy, confidence, and faith (Matthew 6:6; Hebrews 4:16), expressing honest connection rather than empty repetition.
The Holy Spirit strengthens and guides believers in prayer, even when they don’t know what to say (Romans 8:26). Scripture encourages believers to “pray in the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:18), which includes praying in tongues as a biblical, Spirit-empowered way to build up the believer (1 Corinthians 14:2, 14–15).
Prayer is practiced privately and in community, shaping worship, discipleship, and spiritual growth. Scripture affirms that prayer offered in faith is powerful and effective (James 5:16), bringing guidance, healing, peace, and breakthrough in alignment with God’s will (Jeremiah 33:3). Prayer is essential to a Spirit-filled life and central to the mission of the church.
